This story starts when an oil tanker accidenrally starts spilling crude into the ocean (hello Exxon Valdez?), but rather than controlling the spill through conventional methods and in order to keep the disaster hush-hush (hello BP?), the engineer in charge of the project uses an untested ray. The ray actually causes the oil blob to come to life.
Aquaman is patrolling the zone and tries to help, but the creature is too big and too uncontrollable for just one hero, so Hawkman and Hawkgirl show up to lend a hand.
It's the middle of the night and it's raining torrentially. Neither the heroes nor the tanker's crew notice the crude oil monster dissappear.
Hawkgirl realizes that the creature is looking for the alaskan pipeline, and that they must stop it before it gets to it, or things will get worse.
By the time the winged wonders and the king of the seas track down the abomination, it has already reached the pipeline and tore open the crude containers... now the monster has increased its size by a tenfold!
The hawks are trapped and devoured by their enemy, but Aquaman swims into the petroleum and rescues them. Now all covered by the oil slick, Hawkgirl notices the creature marching on to cause more mayhem. Will the Super Friends be able to stop the Terrible Crude Oil Monster?
