The villains of the Legion of Doom are having dreams... nightmares, rather. Nightmares of the end of the world, and not even their sworn enemies, the Justice League can prevent it. Night after night Black Manta, Cheetah, Riddler, Toyman, and the rest of them continue having the same horrific premonition... the end is coming!
JUSTICE is a story of triumph and tragedy, of good and evil, and the fine lines that separate them. Masterfully pieced by Alex Ross, Jim Krueger, and Doug Braithwaite, JUSTICE bands together not only the members of the League, but also the Teen Titans, the Doom Patrol, the Metal Men, and other reknown heroes of the DCU in a 12 issue series that ran from 2005 to 2007.
The story starts in Atlantis, more precisely in the Royal chambers of King Arthur and Queen Mera, who along with their son, Prince Arthur Jr. enjoy a rare moment of piece and tranquility. Aquaman feels uneasy... he has a feeling that something is not right in his kingdom; and his suspicions are confirmed when a group of sharks come for him to advise of a strange contruct that appear at the bottom of the sea.
Aquaman departs leaving his wife and son behind, and soon falls victim of a trap set by the evil Black Manta. Aquaman is taken to the headquarters of the Legion of Doom where their leader, Lex Luthor awaits. In the meantime, Mera is left in Atlantis with her son, and the impending feeling that things are going to go very wrong!
Even though Mera does not play a protagonic role in the story, it is evident that the creators give her a lot of screen time, considering how many characters participate. In issue number one, we see a very regal Mera, beautiful, in her role of wife and mother, and very much like Penelope in the Oddissey awaiting the return of her king. Things will soon turn dark.
